Meet our rescue dog, Wilma! Wilma is about 2 years old. She's incredibly sweet and very smart. Wilma is house trained. She loves other dogs and is adjusting well to having a cat around. She walks great on a leash and rides well in the car. Wilma has learned to use the doggie door like a pro, and would enjoy a yard. Wilma would probably do well in a multitude of situations. She is great with other dogs. Wilma can be left alone with no problems. She does not chew, but she will drag your clothes and shoes around the house if you leave them out. That's probably just sweet Wilma's way of being 'with you' when you're not at home. Wilma is just ... (Read More)a great little girl all around!     qavan pa'! pongwIj 'oH qurIn. Or for those of you who don't speak my language, that's Klingon for 'Hi there! My name is Kurn.' I'm one of the Klingon brothers from the Star Trek litter, and while I may not look like that alien race, I'm definitely the kind of guy who will Kling-on to YOU! I LOVE to snuggle, especially with my foster dad, and play as much as I can! I'm a rather smart boy and super sweet with the other animals in the house--I'm a lover, not a fighter! I'm also both handsome and cute, which isn't something everybody can pull off, but I do it PURRRFECTLY! I'm a curious guy who really loves to play with ball chaser toys ... (Read More)(balls in tracks) and especially loves playing with my littermates and the humans in the house--feather toys or laser pointers to chase anyone? Ask about me and we can have a lifetime of adventure together as we explore new galaxies--or just spend our time discovering all that's great in this one! (Less)

My name is Zoey, I am a black, 7-year-old Bombay cat. My sister Sugar and I are in foster care, after our person in our forever home, passed away. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hi, my name is Phoebe, and I am a female Shepherd/Chow mix. My foster Mom says I am a blast and she marvels at my playfulness. As you can see in my videos, I LOVE to play in the water, so a pool is a must! I like to dive and put my head right in the water while playing in my pool. Apparently I have medium energy, and I overheard my Foster Mom saying I have the cutest floppy front feet. I can sometimes be a little persistent when I want to play with other dogs, even if the other dogs are not so inclined to rough house as much as I do. I'm learning commands such as: down, sit, stay, wait, and walking on a leash. I learn quickly and desire to ... (Read More)please! I am very much a lap dog, and I love to be held, so if you like that too, we will be a great match. I am very affectionate with my people, and with the right training, I would also be an excellent service dog. I focus very well, and love to be with people, so I would be a great dog for someone who needs a dog 24/7. I am working house and crate trained. The attached videos are of me playing Hunter, and showing off my pool skills. If you'd like to meet Phoebe, please fill out the online app today! I am a a two year old Pit Bull mix who is so happy and relieved to finally be out of the shelter (thank goodness I was rescued, they were going to put me down because of my breed!!).  Fearful/Anxious

Meet our new rescue dog, Elvis! He is a possible mix of Yorkie/Poodle/Maltese and/or Bichon. He's around one year old and weighs about six pounds. Elvis is white with apricot coloring. Elvis has a lot of training to catch up on, as he is not house trained yet. He is also learning how to behave in a crate and on a leash. He gets along with other dogs, though he is extremely fearful. He has not been observed with kids or cats as of yet. Elvis acts scared with all people, no matter what age or gender, at this point in time. Elvis does not know any commands yet. He will sit calmly on his foster mom's lap if she holds him there, but otherwise ... (Read More)he's very scared. He's not eating very much yet, but it's his first week in foster care. Elvis will need time to recover from his past. He does pretty well when getting a bath and being brushed. He is too nervous to take treats right now. Sometimes Elvis will walk on his hind legs when he's feeling brave. He does not bark very often. Elvis was a stray with another ARR rescue dog, Presley. They were both scared to death! Elvis runs from people and throws himself against the wall if cornered, or he digs under his bed to hide even when it's hot. Outside, he runs under a bush and digs as far as he can go. His foster mom said it is disturbing and sad to see!! Elvis is not eating very much either. His foster mom gave him scrambled eggs that he did eat after a while but only when he was completely alone. Elvis is young and has good teeth. He is very skinny and will need to put on a couple of pounds. It will take some time to turn Elvis' life around - a lot of holding, talking softly and petting him as much as possible and as many times a day as possible. It will take a very special person who knows about these types of issues in dogs to rehabilitate sweet Elvis. Are you that person who is ready to save this sweet baby? Caleb was taken to a TX shelter as a stray and was very scared and timid there. Since being in foster care in Colorado, Caleb has really started to come out of his shell! Caleb has had a hard life, so he is making up for it now by playing and being a bit puppyish and care-free. He deserves it!     Meet our rescue dog, Popeye! He is a sweet, two year old Shepherd/American Bulldog mix waiting for his forever home. Popeye gets along with other dogs incredibly well. He has not been observed around cats or young children yet. Popeye knows the commands: 'Sit', 'Come' and 'Lay Down' already and is a very smart guy. Popeye is is very playful and could snuggle with your until your heart's content. He is not shy, nor is he protective over his food. Popeye has never shown aggression while in foster care towards people or over food. Popeye loves, loves, LOVES squeaky toys!! He likes bones too and playing tug of war. He licked peanut butter of his ... (Read More)foster mom's finger very gently, but he can be rough with toys when excited. Popeye does not like the sounds of thunder, vacuums or weed whackers. He will hide under blankets when he is scared! He tolerated a bath perfectly the first day he came home from the shelter. Popeye will do anything for a snuggle. He does not like to be yelled at (who does?) and feels guilty very easily. He's a silly guy and likes to spread his foster mom's shoes around the house, though he does not chew on them! He is house trained. Popeye needs a playful home as he is still young. His tail is rather strong and never stops wagging, so he needs to be careful around small kids. Popeye has a lot of energy and really likes to play with other dogs. If you'd like to meet Popeye, please fill out the online app today! Rescue Me ID: 14-05-25-00059Princess (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Here's the story of this pretty 'pocket pittie' Princess: While working at a veterinary hospital in Fremont, CA, an amazing lifesaver named Genelle took ownership of a sweet, loving 9 year old female 'pocket' Pitbull mix named Princess. The owners of Princess had brought her in twice for euthanasia; the second time they brought her in with multiple broken teeth as a result of forced crating. Genelle convinced them both visits to give her more time to place Princess in a new home. The family was moving into a residence that did not accept Pit mixes and they no longer had time for her. Finally, in late February, Genelle took ownership of ... (Read More)Princess even though she could not keep her either. Genelle has contacted over three dozen no-kill shelters and rescues, but no one seems to have room. Even the local county shelter is full. Genelle had been boarding Princess at various vet offices using personal funds, which was not sustainable. Princess is now being fostered at Genelle's home, but Princess needs a forever home urgently!! She needs a home that has the time and patience to help re-train her and overcome her newly brought-on separation anxiety (after all this shuffling around). You would be rewarded with an adoring family dog that will love you forever! She has made leaps and bounds while staying with Genelle over the past month and a half. Princess has gone from being a highly anxious dog always on alert to a more relaxed playful kissing machine. Not only is Princess wonderful with children, but she is very energetic and would make an ideal hiking or running buddy. Perhaps she could even be an agility dog because she loves to jump over things. Princess lived with children most of her life who are now 15 months and 11 years old. Ideally, she would be an only dog as she can be temperamental with certain dogs and cats while off leash. She knows and usually obeys basic commands (like come, sit, stay, and shake). Princess is very affectionate and simply loves to be around people. Princess is current on her vaccines, flea & heartworm prevention, and is spayed. Recently, a longtime mass on Princess was diagnosed as a grade I or II tumor and now needs to be removed along with some of her broken teeth in which the roots are now exposed. It's a pricey operation, but Princess is worth saving!! She has a lot of good years left and is an extremely sweet girl. If you would like to meet or adopt Princess and give her a forever home, please contact Genelle today. *If you are able to sponsor Princess to help with her medical costs or any temporary boarding please contact Genelle today!* Genelle can be reached at the following phone and email.     Meet Petey! He is waiting for his forever home and would love to have an active family or best friend. More info to come soon. UPDATE: I am a big boy, almost 60lbs, and I need a lot of exercise because I have tons of energy! Some people might think of me as overbearing, but I like to think of myself as ever-so-playful. I especially love tug of war, and fetch, and I would really love to have someone help me practice walking with a leash. I work hard for treats, so with my smarts, I will learn in no time! Want to know what I will be like in your home? I am crate trained, and not a barker, pretty quiet for a big dog I must say. I will sit at ... (Read More)your feet, or even right on them - the humans call this 'touchy feely.' I get along well with small dogs, but my competitive streak comes out with larger dogs so this might not be a good combination for me. I am also not at all fond of cats. I have always been with a family, including children, ever since I was a puppy. My ears were cut off when I was baby. If you'd like to meet me, please fill out the online app today!     Meet our rescue dog, Julia! She is such a sweetheart and will make a wonderful companion for someone who wants to love on a big, cuddly teddy bear of a dog. Julia is good with other dogs. She knows the command 'Sit' already and is very smart. She is very snuggly and friendly. Julia is very food-motivated and accepts treats gently. This lover girl loves to come up to you and rub her face on your face. What a doll! Julia would do best in a home with a fenced yard as she prefers to be off-leash when doing her business. Julia has some separation anxiety which likely has to do with her previously being in the shelter and recently rescued. Julia ... He is a sweet, loyal and playful little guy who gets along with adults and other dogs. He needs some time to get used to new people and animals. Chalupa tends to trust women more quickly than men, but once he knows he is safe, he is the perfect companion. Dachshund Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Gabby! This young, wonderful girl is called Miss Gabby Gertie by her foster mom. Gabby is completely house trained. She is such a good girl and very cute in so many different ways. Gabby will go outside and just play with her toys all by herself, throwing them around the garden, up in the air or shaking them in her mouth. She is such a social girl who plays nicely with other dogs at home and in the dog park. She likes to mouth wrestle and chase her friends around and around the park with no malice or agenda. Gabby is just super sweet! She is a submissive dog, although she has given the dog who lives in her foster home a little bark ... (Read More)every now and again when he's being particularly grumpy with her. Gabby is fabulous with kids and rarely jumps up. She is inquisitive and will go out and explore the garden. During the first couple of weeks in foster care, she dug a couple of holes. When her foster mom corrected her, she listened, and now she can be safely left outdoors while the vegetables are safe! Gabby has no fear of men so she seems to have no preconceived fears of anything, lucky girl! She has been to doggie daycare, and they say that she is such a good girl whilst there too. She plays and plays until all of a sudden, she lies down with her back legs splayed out (froggy style) in her usual relaxed pose. Gabby is a crazy maniac for rabbits!! She is walked with a harness on, which helps as she pulls and pulls after those little guys. We have volunteer trainers who can offer great advice on correcting this behavior for any potential adopters. If you'd like to meet Gabby, please fill out the online app today! Spitz Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Pumpkin! I'm having the time of my life, being in foster care in the mountains while waiting for my forever home. My foster mom says I'm the most enthusiastic dog she's ever met (I love compliments!). I've lost over fifteen pounds since being active with her (I'm at 50 pounds and still losing). I went camping, and was happy to sleep in the tent. I don't do well in the heat with my thick fur coat, though I don't shed as much as you would think. I would love a home in the high country of Colorado where I can keep cool. I have to admit, I'm awesome on a leash and will walk along with you calmly. I love to go on walks and though I am ... (Read More)low energy, I need a daily outing. I love my current routine of going to work with my foster mom, going for walks or runs, and then going home via walks or bike rides by the river. I'm a good runner and love to go on bike rides with my foster mom. I am quite athletic and very good at being on leash while running alongside a bicycle. I have chilled in the dugout during a softball game while my foster mom was out in the field. After the game, I went into town and sat on the patio of a pub, behaving ever so well. I've been left at home alone without any problem also. I don' t bark or cry much, nor do I beg for food. I learn quickly and appreciate any time you spend with me. I hear I am independent and not needy. My foster mom is just amazed at how well I listen. I recently learned to enjoy the water. I was rescued from the shelter on May 1st, and recently he had my teeth cleaned at the vet where they estimated my age to be closer to five years old. I would do best in a relaxed, active home. I need a lot of love (don't we all?!). Most of all, I need a peaceful, loving home in a climate conducive to my thick fur. My foster mom is floored by my great personality, and says it 'keeps blossoming.' If you'd like to meet me, please fill out the online app today! UPDATE on Pumpkin: He is really turning out to be a great runner and is becoming very athletic. He will need a family who will take him on daily outings. When he has had a long hike or a bike ride, he has a more relaxed demeanor and seems more open to people and places. He went on a 7-mile bike ride with his foster family! They went at his jogging pace, and he did great! He got a little tired by the end, but he was a trooper! He is getting into great shape and looking fit. He is really opening up to people and now allows people to pet him and is very affectionate to those he knows well. He loves other dogs now too, and he makes friends with dogs on trails and will romp around with dogs on hikes. He has been left at home for several hours alone and has never caused any damage or had accidents. Pumpkin is very patient when alone at home and chills out all day. He is not obnoxious in any way. He even takes bones from delivery drivers without hesitation. He is doing great and warming up more and more daily. He is very well-behaved and loves affection. He now enjoys car rides! It has been noted that Pumpkin appears to be afraid of children, and may do best in a home without young children. Australian Kelpie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Meet Chi! Chi is a special-needs dog looking for a really special family to work with him through what could be a long-term recovery process. We don't know what past trauma he endured, but the result is a very frightened, anxious dog. Although he is afraid of almost everything right now, Chi still wants to be with people and other dogs. He is a gentle soul who will sneak up and nuzzle your hand, lean against your leg or cuddle up to a dog buddy. He is not aggressive or destructive, and he is at ease around children. Chi would do best in a quiet home with an established routine where he can be with a human or another dog at all times. Because ... (Read More)of his submissive nature, he is the victim of doggie bullying. His dog companions should be balanced and assertive without being overly dominant, and his human pack members should be natural, assertive leaders. He is not generally playful with other dogs and needs structured, regular exercise such as leashed runs or walks on a regular route. He does best when the humans are away when he is confined with other dogs to one room of the house (rather than a crate or free roaming). He should not have access to a doggie door or exterior doors (he will door dash). Chi requires a yard with a 6-foot fence minimum in height. Chi's recovery process may require medication and working with professional trainers for a year or more. Although he's unlikely to ever be off-leash or enjoy the dog park, he does have the potential to be a happy, loving, loyal lifetime companion. People who meet Chi quickly fall in love with his beautiful, endearing soul. Chi is easy to love, but he needs time, patience and commitment in order to learn that it's safe to love you back. If you'd like to meet Chi, please fill out an online app today! Adoption fee is $175 and covers microchip, DAPP, Rabies, Heart Worm test and spay/neuter. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I was born in July of 2008. I was raised in a family with other dogs. I am just a gentle couch potato at heart, though I enjoy long walks. I like hanging out by your side on walks and never pull on the leash. I know how to sit, lie down, roll over and shake. I love to relax, watch TV and snuggle. I have a funny little underbitey smile and soft, soft fur. I'm a little shy at first with new people, though I really do love people. I am good with calm, older children. I hate to get rained on, but I enjoy playing in the snow. With me, you would not need an electric blanket to keep your toes warm on cold nights. I am waiting for my forever family ... Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Gypsy Rose. I like cats. Nobody realized this until last year so... surprise! I would love a nice, quiet home with a loving, quiet person and some cat friends. I like to go for short walks. I enjoy rides in the car. I would like to be allowed to relax on the furniture and watch TV with you. I am a good girl and know my basic obedience. I will listen to you and behave like a nice lady should! Would you be interested in giving me a forever home? I know I'm worth knowing the love only a lifelong companion can give. I would love to meet you! Let my friend, Abbie, know that you are interested in me. Her info is below. This is my story: ... (Read More)My first few years, I was chained up outside and ignored. I had puppies, but none of them got to stay with me. One day, I was brought to a shelter. I finally had enough to eat, a warm place to sleep and people to love me. After a while, I was adopted by a couple with a big, fuzzy dog. He was not happy to share his home with me and after about a week, he beat me up. So they brought me back. Then a really nice man adopted me. I got to sleep on his bed and play with the little dogs next door. His older mom made him give me back to the shelter though. Next, I went to live with a woman who seemed nice at first, but back to the shelter I went again. Finally, I was adopted by a wonderful, kind woman who had two cats. We lived happily for several months, and I thought I had finally found my Forever Home. Then, her life got turned upside down through no fault of her own. To keep me out of harm's way, she gave me back to the shelter where they know me so well. If you'd like to meet Gypsy Rose, please contact Abbie at the following email: mauiranch@yahoo.com Gypsy Rose is currently located at a rescue in New Mexico. (Less)
